What the table measures, and what it deliberately leaves out

Method · published · data re-read · 6 min read

A comparison is only useful if you can check it. Everything in the table on this site comes from a place you can open yourself: the Australian store listing for each game. This page explains the six fields, and the three popular numbers that were left out because they cannot be verified.

The six fields

Developer

The most predictive single field. Studios reuse their own conventions, so knowing that two titles come from the same developer tells you more about how they play than any theme or screenshot does.

Store rating and number of ratings

Printed together, always. An average without a count is close to meaningless: in the current table the counts run from 734 to 205,540 on the Australian App Store, and those two extremes do not carry the same weight.

Age rating

Taken from the store, not from our opinion. In this genre the rating usually reflects advertising, chat features or simulated themes rather than difficulty.

Download size

The figure the store shows before installation. What lands on the device afterwards is usually larger, which is the subject of a separate guide.

Last updated

The single best sign that a game is still maintained. Everything currently in the table was updated within the last month.

Advertising label

Whether Google Play marks the title as containing ads. It is a separate question from whether the game sells anything, and both can be true.

What was deliberately left out

  • Download counts as a quality signal. They measure how long a game has been marketed, not how good it is. A title from 2012 will always beat a title from 2024 on that number.
  • Any revenue or spending estimate. Those figures come from third-party estimates that nobody can check, and they say nothing about whether you will enjoy a game.
  • Our own score out of ten. A single number hides the trade-off that actually matters. The table shows the fields; the choice is yours.

If a figure here does not match what you see on the store today, the store is right and this page is stale. Every table and guide carries the date it was last read, and corrections sent to us are applied quickly.

How often it is refreshed

Store data is re-read roughly every two weeks and after any noticeable update to one of the listed titles. The date printed above the table is the date of the last read, not the date the page was created.

Short version

  • Six fields, all verifiable on the official listing.
  • Ratings never printed without their count.
  • No download-count rankings, no revenue estimates, no single score.
